A house that meets the weather first

This home in Lemvig, Denmark sits on high ground above the water, with a sea wall and a pebble beach below and the far shore on the horizon. A wide timber deck with a picnic table runs along the front.

It is the kind of place people build for the view. It is also the kind of place where a facade gets everything the weather has: Wind off the water, rain, and long gray days.

A house there needs an outer skin that can take it — and still look warm on the grayest afternoon.

The Oiled Brown on this house

Warm wood that takes the weather

Aluwood is made in Scandinavia and engineered for Nordic weather: Rain, snow, wind and heat. The slats are thermally treated Nordic pine, heated above 212°C to resist rot, fungus and insects, on an aluminum backing that keeps every line straight as the seasons turn.

Here, the walls and the flat-roofed extension are clad in Oiled Brown, split by a slim black line between the floors. The slats run vertically, right up to the gutters, so the gable reads tall and calm rather than busy.

On a coastal house, upkeep is the question that matters. There is no sanding and no repainting. Oil it once a year to keep that rich brown, or let it weather to silver-gray, a color that sits naturally next to sea and sky. Either way, it is a choice, not a chore.

Warmth and contrast, inside the landscape

The black carries right through: Black window frames, black gutters and downpipes, a black flat roof on the extension, and black cladding on the glazed room to one side. Against it, the brown looks even warmer, and the big window on the extension reflects the far shore.

Clean lines and natural tones let the house sit in the landscape instead of standing against it. Seen from the beach, past the reeds, the house shows itself in wood.

It is a look you can borrow for almost any house: One warm wood tone on the big surfaces, black on the frames and the edges. Order a sample of Oiled Brown and see it in your own light — on a gray day, too.

Aluwood, on your building

Houses, extensions, sheds and garden walls. Aluwood brings the warmth of wood to all of them, and asks for very little once it is up.
