How should your AluWood be mounted?

How to install AluWood

What you need

To install the panels, you need the following:

AluWood panels (240 x 45,1 x 3,3 cm)
Wind barrier
Clamping gun
Clamping strips for ventilation
Battens (c.t.c. max 80 cm)
A circular saw
A screwdriver
Screws to attach both panels and joists/formwork to the wall.
– Front screws for clamping stips and battens (4,8 x 35 mm)
– Back screws and front screws for panel mounting (4,8 x 19 mm) – find our screws here for a water-tight mounting
Insect Screen (1800 mm)
AluWood Capping (optional – unless mounted around a window) (240 cm)
AluWood Slats if you want a wood finish on your corner capping. (240 x 40 x 18 cm)
Ruler / tape measure.
Pencil.

Step 1: Make your wall ready for AluWood

Start by making your wall ready for AluWood. Make sure all older wood is removed, install wind barriers, mount clamping strips for ventilation and install the battens. Battens need to have a maximum distance of 80 cm.

When all is ready, make sure to mount the insect screen, to keep away unwanted guests. If you are unsure of how to mount the insect screen, you can see it in the following video below.

How to mount the insect screen:

Whether you install the insect screen in the bottom or at the top of your house, you just need to make sure it’ll cover the chosen area and block the unwanted guests. Fasten it by driving screws through the screen and into the clamping strips.

… you are going to need capping to ensure a water-tight installation. We have several different capping you can use both for a functional and visual benefit.

Step 2: Measuring

Measure your wall to figure out where your panel should be placed and if it should be cut to fit into place.

Step 3: Cutting the panels

If you have to cut the panels this can be done with a circular saw.

Important – note the direction of the panel before cutting and mounting.

Remember to have in mind what way the panel turns. It has an upper and lower side. The lower side the panel has a 15 degree slope so the water can escape at the bottom.

Step 3.1: Fasten the backside of the panel

Check on the back side if new screws are needed to secure the panel:

When cutting the panels you need to make sure the backside is fully fastened still. If your cut has resulted in loss of backside screw fastenings you need to use our back-screws and re-fasten the backside.

Step 4: Mark the position of the screws

To ensure a visually aesthetic look you can mark on the panel in a straight line where you will place the screws.

Step 5: Mounting the panels

Make sure the 15 degree slope is at the bottom when mounting the panels. The panels should be mounted with our front-screws. Drive the screw through the aluminum board and into the battens. Remember to drive the screws into the marked screw positions to ensure the straight line visual look.

Step 6: Installing the next panel

When installing the next panel it is going to be on top of the previous panel as an overlap. See the detailed process in the video below. Then drive the screw through the double alu-layer and into the batten.

Capping installation

In case of a window, you need to mount capping

We have a wide range of capping to help you create a functional and visually aesthetic exterior.

Thes window capping need to be installed first thing. If you want to add more capping for a beautiful look these can be mounted both before and after panel mounting. If you want to mount them after panel installation, you need to make sure there’s space for the capping. The thickness is the same as the insect screens – this can be used as a distance measure.
