Installation on formwork

How to install on formwork

You will need this:

To mount the panels you will need the following:

  • Studs (we recommend 45 mm in thickness).
  • A saw – either a jigsaw or a regular hand saw.
  • A screwdriver.
  • Screws to fasten both panels and studs/scaffolding to the wall.
  • Black drywall screws approximately 30 mm. for mounting the acoustic panels.
  • Optional small screws approximately 15 mm. for fastening the slats after cutting the panels.
  • Ruler/tape measure.
  • Pencil.

Step 1: Prepare the wall

Start by preparing the wall. Wipe the wall with a cloth and remove any screws, nails, and other obstructions so that the wall is completely even. Then you can measure and mark where the panels are to be mounted.

Step 2: Measure the wall

Next mark where you want to place your panels on your surface. In this example, we want to install the panels in the middle of the wall.

Step 3: Adjust the laths

Now it is time to adjust the laths to fit our needs. The laths we are using in this video, have a length of 360 centimeters, but we will trim them down to leave room for the end-lamellas.

Step 4: Install the studs

Begin by installing the studs/scaffolding on the wall where you will mount your acoustic panels. Use screws (and possibly rawlplugs) that are suitable for the type of wall you have. If not, you can screw the studs directly into the wall. We recommend 40 centimeters between each lath (we recommend two persons for mounting the lath).

Step 5: Insert mineral wool

If you want to achieve sound class A with your panel installation, mineral wool should be inserted between the joists. Once the joists are installed, cut the mineral wool to size and insert it between the joists.

Step 6: Cutting panels to height

If you need to adjust the height of the panel, you can cut it using a circular saw or a jigsaw (a regular saw). Mark the cut line on the panel using a pencil, so you can make a straight cut. After cutting the panel, it’s a good idea to screw the ends of the slats back in place (through the felt and into the slats) using about 15mm long screws. Otherwise, the slats may hang loosely.

Remember to screw the slats in place after cutting

After cutting the panel, it’s a good idea to screw the ends of the slats back in place (through the felt and into the slats) using about 15mm long screws. Otherwise, the slats may hang loosely.

Repeat through each slat.

Step 7: Mounting the panels

Fasten the acoustic panels to the wall by screwing the black gypsum screw (35 mm) through the black acoustic felt and into the wall (or if you have used rawplugs, screw into them).

We recommend 15 screws per panel.

The acoustic panels have a felt side and a slat side.

The sides of the acoustic panels fit together so that the joints themselves will be hidden behind the slat on the previous panel.

When mounting the panels, push the panels together (felt side against slat side) until there is a 13 mm gap between the slats in the joint. Do NOT push the panels together completely. To maintain the correct distance, you can take a slat from a color sample and place it between the two panels, as shown in the video “Distance between panels” below.

Step 8: Distance between panels

For setting the right distance between akupanels, you can use a slat from a color sample. Make sure there is 13 millimeters between the panels as you attach them to the wall.

Step 9: Add end-lamellas

To get a neat finish to your wall, you can add end-lamellas. Each panel has a felt and a slat side. In case your wall ends with a slat side, you will need to cut off the final slat in order to make sure that the panels gets two felt sides.

Now load your caulking gun with mounting glue and apply a thin layer to your end-lamella. Carefully place the end-lamella to your wall.

Now you are done!
